Run4salmon is a Winnemem Wintu-led Prayerful Journey from San Francisco Bay up the Sacramento River to the McCloud River. By foot, bike, boat, and horseback the Septermber 9th-23rd Run4Salmon traces the journey the wild winter Chinook Salmon will take in returning to their native McCloud River spawning grounds. The Winnemem are working to restore this wild Salmon Run that nourished their people and culture for thousands of years until Shasta Dam was built in 1945 blocking the Salmon's return. The ancestral genetic McCloud River salmon was recently identified in the Rakaia River in New Zealand (a wonderful story told in the film Dancing Salmon Home) and the tribe needs support to raise funds for the US government’s requirement to genetically test the New Zealand salmon's lineage and for efforts to convince California & US government agencies to build a natural Swimway around Shasta Dam so the Salmon can finally return home. Come, Have a Great Time, Learn about Winnemem Wintu History & the Salmon & Support An Important Indigenous Effort to Right The Balance!
